Deportation & Removal Defense Attorney in Utah
If the government is trying to remove you, you get a defense.
Removal proceedings are adversarial. A government attorney is arguing for your deportation, and the judge decides. Richards & Richards appears in immigration court and, because of federal admission, can follow a case to whatever court it lands in.

Federally admitted in every U.S. immigration court
Years practicing immigration law
Languages: English · Español · Português
Kevin Richards is federally admitted to practice immigration law in every state.

That's not a marketing claim. It's an actual federal credential — admission to the U.S. Immigration Court, all states. Kevin can represent a client in removal proceedings in any immigration court in the country, and does.
What that means for you:
- If your case gets transferred to a different state's immigration court (ICE does this regularly with detained cases), you don't have to find a new attorney.
- If your family member is in detention out of state, we can represent them there without handing the case off.
- If you're appealing a denial to the BIA or the Tenth Circuit, Kevin handles both.
Kevin is also trilingual — fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Consultations happen in the language you're most comfortable in.
And: Kevin serves as a public defender in Weber County. He knows criminal-immigration consequences — the dangerous intersection where a small criminal matter triggers deportation — as well as anyone practicing in Utah.

Request a Consultation →Questions We Get About Removal Defense
Short answers to what people actually ask before they call.
- What happens if I miss my immigration court hearing?
- The judge can order you removed without you there. An in absentia order is one of the hardest things to undo, and it can happen from one missed date. If you have a hearing notice, treat the date as immovable and call us before it, not after.
- Can a criminal charge get me deported?
- Yes, and the charge does not have to be serious. Immigration law classifies offenses differently than Utah criminal law does, so a plea that sounds like a minor resolution in state court can carry permanent immigration consequences. Get immigration advice before accepting any plea.
- What relief is available in removal proceedings?
- It depends entirely on your history. Cancellation of removal, adjustment of status, asylum and related protection, and waivers are among the possibilities, each with its own requirements. Working out which ones you qualify for is the first real task in the case.
- My family member was detained and moved to another state. Now what?
- We can usually keep representing them. ICE transfers detained people regularly, and it often forces families to start over with a new lawyer in a new state. Kevin is federally admitted in every state, so a transfer does not have to mean handing the case off.
- Should I just leave instead of fighting it?
- Not before someone tells you what leaving costs. Departing while a case is pending, or after certain orders, can trigger bars on returning that last years. Sometimes leaving is the right call, but it should be a decision made with the consequences in front of you.
General information about Utah law, not legal advice, and reading it does not create an attorney-client relationship. Every case turns on its own facts.
