Your Immigration Attorney

Kevin Richards is federally admitted to practice immigration law in every state.

Kevin G. Richards

That's not a marketing claim. It's an actual federal credential — admission to the U.S. Immigration Court, all states. Kevin can represent a client in removal proceedings in any immigration court in the country, and does.

What that means for you:

  • If your case gets transferred to a different state's immigration court (ICE does this regularly with detained cases), you don't have to find a new attorney.
  • If your family member is in detention out of state, we can represent them there without handing the case off.
  • If you're appealing a denial to the BIA or the Tenth Circuit, Kevin handles both.

Kevin is also trilingual — fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Consultations happen in the language you're most comfortable in.

And: Kevin serves as a public defender in Weber County. He knows criminal-immigration consequences — the dangerous intersection where a small criminal matter triggers deportation — as well as anyone practicing in Utah.

Why Choose Richards & Richards for Your DACA Case

Immigration cases turn on paperwork, deadlines, and who is reading your file. Here is what you get when you hire us.

1

You Get a Real Filing Plan

After your consultation you get a written summary of where you stand: what the program currently allows in your situation, when your renewal has to be filed, what travel would mean for you, and whether any other path is worth pursuing.

2

One Attorney, One Point of Contact

The attorney on your case handles your case. You are not shuffled between five lawyers or handed to a paralegal who cannot make decisions. When you call, you reach the person who knows your file.

3

Federally Admitted in Every State

Kevin Richards is admitted to practice before the U.S. Immigration Court in every state. If your case is transferred, or a family member is detained somewhere else, it does not have to change hands.

4

We Are Transparent About Costs

You get our rate and retainer requirement upfront, plus an honest estimate of what the work costs through resolution. We also tell you plainly what we cannot promise, because no lawyer can promise you an outcome.

5

Clear Communication, Always

We answer calls and emails within 24 business hours. When something significant happens on your case, you hear it from a person, not a form letter. We explain what it means and what happens next.

I cannot say enough good things about Kevin and his team. Going through a high-conflict divorce and custody case has been one of the most stressful and emotionally draining experiences of my life, and Kevin has been a steady source of guidance, support, and reassurance throughout the entire process. From the very beginning, Kevin took the time to explain every step of the process, answer my questions, and help me understand what to expect. When I felt overwhelmed, anxious, or uncertain, he helped keep me grounded and focused on the bigger picture. His calm and confident approach gave me peace of mind during some of the most difficult moments of my case…

Kevin Richards has represented me for several years through multiple complex cases, including an ex parte TRO, a custody modification, and a DCFS case. These situations were extremely stressful and involved my children, and having Kevin in my corner made all the difference. He is knowledgeable, strategic, and a strong advocate for his clients. He takes the time to understand the details of your case and makes sure you understand your options. His experience with family law and DCFS matters was invaluable…

Questions We Get About DACA

Short answers to what people actually ask before they call.

Is DACA still available?
The program has been in litigation for years, and what is available has shifted with the rulings. Renewals and first-time applications have not always been treated the same way. Rather than give you an answer here that could be out of date by the time you read it, call us and we will tell you exactly where things stand and what it means for you.
When should I file my renewal?
Earlier than you think. USCIS asks for renewals within a window before expiration, and filing outside it risks a gap where you have neither work authorization nor protection. Put the date in your calendar the day you get your approval, not the month it expires.
Does DACA give me legal status?
No. This is the most important thing to understand about it. Deferred action is a decision not to pursue removal for a period of time, plus work authorization. It is discretionary, it is not lawful status, and it does not by itself put you on a path to a green card.
Can I travel outside the country?
Only with advance parole, and not without advice first. Leaving without it can end your protection and trigger bars on returning. Even approved travel carries risk at the port of entry. Talk to us before you make plans, not from the airport.
Can DACA lead to a green card?
Not on its own, but some recipients qualify through another route. Family petitions, employment, and humanitarian categories are separate paths, and the analysis is fact-specific. We see people who have been renewing for a decade without ever checking whether something more permanent was available to them.

General information about Utah law, not legal advice, and reading it does not create an attorney-client relationship. Every case turns on its own facts.

Still have a question about your own situation? That is what the consultation is for. One hour, $100, credited to your retainer if we take your case.
